J) Technique Overview

Post by Ejj on Tue Oct 20, 2015 1:59 am

Techniques
By combining the applications of Talents, Specialties, and Skills, one is able to devise a technique utilizing their core aspects in order to create an effect that would be otherwise impossible. All techniques are scalable from E to S rank, and must be trained at in order to have them upgrade. Alternatively, when a character classes up, they may substitute one of the below technique additions to level up a technique from any lower rank to that rank. An example of a technique is to combine a Weapon skill and Elemental Talent in order to use your element in conjunction with swordplay. If one were to create a new technique for every slot available to them, they would have 25 techniques. Players may create any addition techniques at any time for cost, although they must start at E rank and be paid for in full to upgrade.

Starting Rank | Main Path; Alternate Path 1 | XP Cost

  • E | 2 E Rank; 1 D Rank | 40
  • D | 2 D Rank; 1 C Rank; 4 E Rank | 60
  • C | 2 C Rank; 1 B Rank; 4 D Rank | 85 XP
  • B | 2 B Rank; 1 A Rank; 4 C Rank | 125 XP
  • A | 2 A Rank; 1 S Rank; 4 B Rank | 200 XP
  • S | 2 S Rank; 4 A Rank | 300 XP

Code:

[b]Technique Name:[/b]
[b]Current Rank:[/b]
[b]Calculation:[/b]
[b]Flavor:[/b]
[b]Contributing Stats:[/b]
[b]Mechanics:[/b]
[b]Downfall:[/b]

Technique Name: What is your technique called?
Current Rank: What rank is your technique currently leveled up to?
Calculation: How do your various Talents, Specialties, and Skills combine to create this technique? A one or two sentence explanation will suffice.
Flavor: What is the story description of the technique? What does it look like when used?
Contributing Stats: What stats are involved in the use of this technique? Please merely list the actual stats used, separated by a comma.
Mechanics: What actual math goes into play when the technique is used? How does this technique affect any calculations?
Downfall: What disadvantages does this technique have? Any weaknesses, costs, charging times, etc goes here.

Technique Energy Cost

Determining how much energy a technique should cost can be difficult. In order to keep balance, a standardized Energy Chart has been devised that will inform you as to how much energy your technique will cost (anything not actually a Technique counts as one for the sake of combat purposes) based on how much it affects the battlefield. Depending on how the technique operates, it most likely falls under one of the following categories. If it falls under both, calculate each separately and add the totals together. Don't forget the Tech Rank cost, which applies to all techniques no matter what it does!

  • Stat Increase
Increasing stats during a technique is very simple. For every 1 stat points increased, 5 energy is spent. This means that if a technique creates a fireball that deals damage equal to your will stat+100, it will cost 500 energy.

  • Effectiveness Increase
If a technique increases the user's effectiveness during a particular clash, that technique is charged 200 energy TIMES the number of levels increased. If the user unleashes a technique that increases their effectiveness by two levels, it will cost 400 energy.

  • Rank Increase
By using a technique to increase something's Rank for clash calculations and purposes, it will cost 300 energy. For every rank increased, it will cost an additional 150 energy.

  • Tech Rank
Depending on what rank the technique in question being used is, the technique will have an additional energy cost. For E rank techniques, they will cost 10 energy as a base. D rank techniques cost 25. C rank techniques cost 100 energy as base, and B rank cost 250. Finally, A rank techniques cost 500 energy as a base, and S rank techniques cost 1000.

EXAMPLE TECHNIQUE

Technique Name: Summon: Black Phoenix

Current Rank: S

Calculation:By combining the Talent Birdcall and the Specialty Rhythmic Memory, one is able to form a pact and summon the Black Phoenix.

Flavor:  By combining one's ability to communicate with Bird-like monsters and cast complex spells, one is able to remember the long, powerful melody that draws out an ancient, terrifying force of nature. The Black Phoenix is a large bird, spanning 24 meters from wing to wing and 18 from beak to tail feathers, it is covered in charcoal covered plumage constantly ablaze in small, blue tongues. The most notable usage of the Black Phoenix is as a last-resort offensive force, as the high cost of summon and maintenance makes it difficult to use as a primary weapon.

Contributing Stats: Wisdom

Mechanics: The user must use the Birdcall Talent and Rhthymic Memory Specialty in conjunction in order to cast this technique. The Black Phoenix possesses one Talent and Specialty each, called 'Life Burn' and 'High Speed Regeneration' respectively. These abilities increase in rank as the user's mastery over this technique does.

Black Phoenix's Race: Monster{Infernile}
Black Phoenix's Stats (A rank (S Rank))

  • Str: 175 (200)
  • Con: 175 (200)
  • Wil: 175 (200)
  • Wis: 175 (200)
  • Spd: 175 (200)
  • Rgn: 175 (200)

  • Health: 3150 (3600)
  • Energy: 4200 (4800)

Life Burn:

Talent Name: Life Burn

Talent Rank: A

Origin: Due to the unholy nature of the Black phoenix's flames, it uses common life-force as a possible fuel source. Because these flames are naturally generated by the Black phoenix's skin, it would be foolish not to learn how to manipulate them.

Flavor: By breathing fireballs, flamethrowers, casting down molten feathers from the heavens, or doing just about anything they can to put their black flames in contact with their opponent and burn them, the Black Phoenix can deal normal fire damage as well as burn away at the target's surging life force used to regenerate the wounds, making healing the damage next to impossible.

Contributing Stats: Will

Mechanics: For every rank the user possesses in this skill, reduce the target's Regeneration stat by 50 for the next 3 posts.

Downfalls: Energy cost is 50*5 = 250 + 500 = 750 at A Rank; 50*6=300 + 1000 = 1300 at S Rank.

High Speed Regeneration:

Specialty Name: High-Speed Regeneration

Skill Rank: A

Discovery: By realizing that his manipulation over flames went hand-in-hand with his body's near-plasmic composition, the Black Phoenix is able to restore his physical form at an advanced rate.

Flavor:  In an almost telekinetic manner, the Black Phoenix may draw fire like his own back from the battlefield toward him and stitch it back into his body. By putting a large amount of focus into it, the bird-creature can pull in large quantities and repair at a very fast speed.

Contributing Stats: Regeneration

Mechanics: Increase the user's regeneration stat by their will stat, paying appropriate stat increase cost. This technique, once cast, lasts five posts.

Downfalls: While regenerating, the Black Phoenix may not be moved or interrupted. Any interruption will cease the regeneration where it was and force him to continue later. This technique costs the Black Phoenix 500 + 875 = 1375 energy at A rank and 1000 + 1000 = 2000 energy at S Rank.

Downfall: This technique can only be learned at A rank. The user must pay a total of 500 energy to use this technique at A rank, and 1000 energy to use it at S rank.
